The Tasmanian Branch Committee of The Order of Australia Association welcomes all Association delegates to the 33rd National Conference in Hobart.  The theme “Making the Difference” is something we should all be familiar but we hope that some of the unique achievements of Tasmanians will bring to you a flavour of what is special to our State.

Tasmania is experiencing a tourism boom attracting a significant increase in cruise ship visits now making up to 20% of all visitors.  We recommend that you take the opportunity whilst in Tasmania to visit some of the regular popular sites such as the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Mt Wellington and, right at our doorstep, take a stroll on Saturday morning through the famous Salamanca Market.  For an experience with a difference Bespoke Tasmania is offering special exclusive delegates tours, details of which shown on the Association’s website.

The Conference contains the important aspects we come to expect.  The Oration, Service of Reflection, Receptions and Symposium with speakers covering topics from medical research, the Antarctic, primary industry and space are bound to entertain and inform.  We hope you can take home special memories from your Hobart experience.

Tasmanian Weather

Our weather can vary significantly across the island.  The west is known for high rainfall, temperate rain forests and generally cooler temperatures while the east can be warm and dry.  Hobart is the second driest capital after Adelaide so expect some quite warm days, cool nights as well as the possibility of wind and rain.  What is certain about our weather is that it can quickly change.  Check the Bureau of Meteorology for Hobart’s forecast.

Medals and Dress Code

For each function the appropriate dress code and which medals are recommended will be provided with your registration acceptance and will be published with the programme booklet and on the Association website.

Parking and Transport

For those who choose to bring their vehicle across Bass Strait by the Spirit of Tasmania there is limited parking with some city hotels and numerous daytime parking spaces, at a price, near the Hotel Grand Chancellor.  Most venues will be in walking distance but we will have bus transport available for those needing assistance.

Car Hire

Budget Car and Truck Hire has offered delegates attending the conference who wish to tour the state a discount of $30 for a three day hire.  Contact Budget at 96 Harrington St, Hobart.  Phone 03 6234 5222.
