The inaugural meeting of the Tasmanian Branch was held in the Hobart Town Hall on 11th December 1980.
Formal Regional Groups were established in the North West and South. These Groups have met regularly and enjoyed excellent guest speakers at their general meetings as well as enjoyed many worthwhile social occasions, such as trips to various beauty spots, dinners (two in the NW aboard Spirit 3), concerts, afternoon teas and a soiree.
The State Committee organises a number of regular events including:
- “Welcome Dinners” bi-annually following each Investiture.
- A bi-annual Newsletter.
- The National Conferences in Tasmania in 1996 and 2004.
- The National Director’s Meeting in Devonport in 2000.
- The “My Vision for Tasmania” school project in 1999 with winners travelling to Canberra.
The three regional groups have organised successful fundraising functions to assist the OAA Foundation. A total of over $7,000 has been raised in the past two years and more events are planned.
One of the main aims of each Branch of The Order of Australia Association is to raise awareness about The Order of Australia and the process through which awards are granted. The Branch Office regularly distributes information to those who are seeking to submit a nomination.
